PEMF Sessions
PEMF for Athletic Recovery
A recovery visit where you can combine PEMF, NormaTec compression and red light. PEMF itself has little sports-recovery research behind it, so we'll tell you what's known about each tool.
The Basics
About athletic recovery
Hard training leaves you sore, stiff and tired. That's normal. Sleep, food, hydration and sensible training loads do most of the work of recovery. Recovery tools are extras: things some athletes like to add because they feel good and fit their routine. If you have an injury that isn't improving, see a doctor or sports medicine clinician first.
What a Session Is Like
What happens in a session?
Wendy has a Division I athletic background and set up the studio with athletes in mind. A typical recovery visit might be a PEMF session over the areas that feel worked, time in NormaTec boots, and a few minutes under the red light panel. You stay clothed for PEMF and NormaTec, nothing is ingested, and you can train again whenever you and your coach decide.
The Evidence
What does the research show?
We don't know of good trials showing PEMF speeds recovery from exercise. For the other tools the evidence is limited too: low-certainty evidence suggests red light applied before exercise can reduce later soreness, and reviews of compression boots find trivial-to-small effects on perceived soreness and muscle function, with moderate-certainty evidence that they don't reduce soreness at 24 hours. Many athletes still like how these sessions feel.

Who this isn't for
Please don't book, or talk to your doctor first, if any of these apply to you:
- A pacemaker, defibrillator or any other implanted electronic device (PEMF)
- Pregnancy
- Metal implants: ask us first (PEMF)
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), blood clots or open wounds on the legs (NormaTec)
- Photosensitizing medications or eye sensitivity to bright light (red light)
- Recent surgery: if you've had surgery recently, get clearance from your surgeon first and bring it to your first session.
FAQ
Common Questions: Athletic Recovery
Does PEMF speed up recovery after training?
We don't know of good evidence that it does. Most PEMF research is in knee osteoarthritis, not sports recovery. Some athletes like PEMF as part of their routine, and you're welcome to try a free session and see how it feels for you.
What's the best order: PEMF, NormaTec or red light?
There's no proven order. The one timing finding we know of is for red light: low-certainty evidence suggests light applied before exercise reduced later soreness. Otherwise, pick what feels best and fits your schedule.
Can PEMF help a sports injury?
Get injuries checked by a doctor or sports medicine clinician. We don't offer care for injuries, and PEMF isn't a substitute for it. If you've had surgery recently, get clearance from your surgeon first and bring it to your first session.
Is it OK for drug-tested athletes?
PEMF, compression and red light don't involve any substance. As always, check your own sport's rules if you're unsure.
