Recovery Sessions in Cedar Knolls, NJ
Six drug-free, non-invasive sessions: PEMF, red light, NormaTec compression, BrainTap, infrared sauna and vibroacoustic. Your first session is free. Here is what each one is like and what the research honestly shows.
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) Sessions
The core of what we do
PEMF sessions use a MagnaWave system to deliver pulsed electromagnetic fields while you sit or lie fully clothed. Most research is in knee osteoarthritis, where results are mixed and modest: some reviews find small improvements in function or pain, others find little difference.
Session length: 20-30 minutes
Everything about this session →What to expect
- You stay fully clothed
- Most people feel a light tapping or pulsing
- Intensity starts low and builds over your first sessions
- Not for anyone with a pacemaker or implanted electronic device
Red Light Therapy
Not a heat lamp
Red and near-infrared light, also called photobiomodulation. There is low-certainty evidence that specific doses reduce knee osteoarthritis pain and that light used before exercise reduces later muscle soreness. Most of those studies used clinical lasers, so results may not carry over to every device.
Session length: 3-30 minutes
Everything about this session →What to expect
- No heat, no needles, nothing to feel but gentle warmth
- Sessions can be as short as a few minutes per area
- Wear the eye protection we provide
- Check with your doctor if you take light-sensitizing medication
NormaTec Compression
Popular with athletes
NormaTec boots and sleeves inflate and release in a sequence along your legs, arms or hips. The over-the-counter models are FDA-cleared to temporarily relieve minor muscle aches and pains and to temporarily increase circulation. Studies find small effects on how sore people feel, and many athletes like how it feels.
Session length: 20-60 minutes
Everything about this session →What to expect
- You lie back and relax while the boots work
- Pressure is adjustable and should never hurt
- Common before or after training
- Not for anyone with blood clots, DVT or open wounds
BrainTap
A guided way to switch off
BrainTap is a guided audio-and-light relaxation session: a headset with music and voice guidance and glasses with soft light pulses. We offer it as a relaxation session. The research base is very thin, and it is not a medical treatment.
Session length: ~20 minutes
Everything about this session →What to expect
- Recline and listen with your eyes closed
- Over 400 guided sessions to choose from
- Many people use it to wind down
- Not for anyone with epilepsy, a seizure history or light sensitivity
Infrared Sauna
Quiet, dry heat
Our infrared sauna warms you with far-infrared heat at a lower air temperature than a traditional sauna. Most people use it to relax. Evidence on post-exercise recovery is mixed; one small trial in athletes found less soreness after a session.
Session length: 30-45 minutes (first visits often start around 20)
Everything about this session →What to expect
- First-timers start shorter and cooler
- Bring water and plan to cool down afterward
- Private session
- Not advised during pregnancy or with heart conditions or low blood pressure without your doctor's OK
Vibroacoustic Sessions
Most people fall asleep on this one
You lie on the Wave Oasis mat and feel low-frequency sound and music through your whole body. It is a relaxation session, not a treatment, and plenty of people drift off.
Session length: 20-40 minutes
Everything about this session →What to expect
- Lie back fully clothed
- Several programs to choose from
- Deeply relaxing for most people
- Check with your doctor first if you are pregnant or have an implanted device
