Far-infrared heat
Infrared Sauna in Cedar Knolls, NJ
An infrared sauna warms your body directly with far-infrared heat, at about 120–140°F instead of a traditional sauna's 180–200°F. Sessions run 30 to 45 minutes, and you will sweat. It's a relaxing heat session, and the recovery research is mixed. Adults can book one at DWT Wellness in Cedar Knolls, NJ.
What is an infrared sauna session like?
Most sessions run 30 to 45 minutes at about 120–140°F. That's noticeably cooler than a traditional sauna, because far-infrared heat warms your body directly instead of heating all the air around you. First-timers usually start around 20 minutes at a lower temperature and work up from there.
Wear something light and breathable: loose shorts and a tee, a bathing suit, or just a towel. We provide clean towels. Bring a change of clothes, because you will sweat, and drink water before and after.

What does the research say about infrared saunas?
The recovery evidence is mixed. A 2025 systematic review of heat after exercise (Ahokas et al.) found the results on acute recovery inconclusive. One small trial in 16 athletes (Ahokas et al., 2023) found less soreness after a post-exercise infrared sauna session, but one small study isn't enough to promise that for you.
So we describe the sauna as what it clearly is: a quiet, relaxing heat session. We don't make medical claims for it.

Who shouldn't use an infrared sauna?
Heat isn't for everyone. Skip the sauna, or talk to your doctor first, if any of these apply:
- You are pregnant.
- You have a heart condition.
- You have low blood pressure, or high blood pressure that isn't under control.
- You're sensitive to heat, or take a medication that affects hydration or heat tolerance.
- Your doctor has asked you to keep an implant away from heat.
If you've had surgery recently, get clearance from your surgeon first and bring it to your first session.
How does an infrared sauna compare to red light therapy?
The sauna heats your whole body for 30 to 45 minutes, and you sweat. Red light therapy aims light at bare skin for a few minutes per area. It feels warm, but you won't really sweat.
Red light has its own low-certainty research in knee pain and exercise soreness. The sauna's appeal is the heat and the quiet time. See our red light vs. infrared sauna guide for more.

Most sessions run 30 to 45 minutes. First-timers usually start around 20 minutes at a lower temperature to see how they feel, then work up from there.
Does an infrared sauna help with recovery?
The evidence is mixed. A 2025 review of post-exercise heat found results inconclusive, and one small trial in 16 athletes found less soreness after an infrared session. We offer it as a relaxing heat session, not a guaranteed recovery tool.
Is an infrared sauna the same as a regular sauna?
Not quite. A traditional sauna heats the air to about 180–200°F. An infrared sauna warms your body directly with far-infrared heat, so it runs cooler, at about 120–140°F. You still sweat.
What should I wear in the infrared sauna?

Who shouldn't use an infrared sauna?
