A PEMF session before a show can help your horse feel loose, comfortable, and ready to perform. Here's how and when to schedule it.
You've done the training. The braids are perfect. The truck is packed. But is your horse actually feeling good enough to perform at their best? A lot of riders focus so hard on preparation that they forget the most important variable: how the horse physically feels on show day. This is where pre-competition PEMF comes in.
Why Timing Matters
We generally recommend a PEMF session one to three days before a competition. This gives the body enough time to process the treatment without being too far out to still benefit. The day before works great for most horses. A session the morning of can work too, but some horses get so relaxed that they need a little time to "wake back up." You want loose and limber, not sleepy.
What Pre-Show PEMF Does
- Loosens tight muscles that developed during the training ramp-up
- Reduces low-grade inflammation in joints and soft tissue
- Improves range of motion, and you'll feel it in the quality of their gaits
- Helps the horse feel calm and comfortable, which translates to better focus
Think of it like a deep sports massage for a human athlete before a big game. You're not fixing anything. You're optimizing. Getting everything moving freely so the horse can give you their best effort without fighting their own body.
What Riders Tell Us
Michelle hears it a lot: "My horse felt like a completely different animal." That's because horses who aren't sore move differently. They're more forward, more willing to use their back, more adjustable. For hunters and jumpers especially, that translates to better form over fences and smoother rounds. It's not a shortcut. Your horse still has to be trained and fit. But it removes the physical roadblocks that can cost you a ribbon.
