PEMF Therapy Side Effects: What We've Actually Seen

4 min read

Every therapy has potential side effects. Here's what we've honestly observed with PEMF, and what the research backs up.

We'd rather be upfront about this than pretend PEMF has zero side effects. The good news is that what we've seen is mild and temporary. But you deserve to know before you start.

Common (and Mild) Side Effects

  • Slight fatigue after the first couple of sessions as your body is adjusting.
  • Temporary increase in discomfort if there's a lot of inflammation being addressed.
  • Light tingling or warmth during the session itself.
  • Occasionally, people feel a bit lightheaded for a few minutes afterward.

These tend to happen early on and fade as your body gets used to the therapy. Think of it like starting a new exercise routine. The first few days can be rough, but your body adapts.

Who Should Avoid PEMF?

PEMF is generally very safe, but there are a few situations where we recommend against it. People with pacemakers, insulin pumps, or other implanted electronic devices should not use PEMF. Pregnant women should also avoid it, and anyone with active bleeding disorders should check with their doctor first.

Our Honest Take

In the years we've been offering PEMF at our Cedar Knolls location, serious adverse reactions have been basically nonexistent. Most people feel better after sessions, not worse. The ones who experience mild fatigue early on are usually the same people who see the biggest improvements later.

If something doesn't feel right during a session, we stop. It's that simple. We'd rather be cautious than push through something that doesn't feel okay.
