PEMF vs. Biofeedback: What's the Difference?

5 min read

Both are drug-free, tech-forward wellness tools — but they do very different things. Here's how to tell them apart.

People often lump PEMF, biofeedback, and neurofeedback together because they all sound high-tech and drug-free. But they work in genuinely different ways, and knowing the difference helps you pick the right tool for what you are after.

What Biofeedback Is

Biofeedback is about awareness and control. Sensors measure something your body is doing — heart rate, muscle tension, brainwaves — and show it back to you in real time so you can learn to influence it. Neurofeedback is biofeedback aimed specifically at brainwaves. The goal is training: over time you get better at steering your own physiology, whether that is relaxing a tight jaw or calming a racing mind.

What PEMF Is

PEMF therapy does not measure anything — it delivers. It sends pulsed electromagnetic fields into your tissue to stimulate cells, improve circulation, and reduce inflammation at the source. You are not learning a skill; your cells are getting a recharge. It is used mostly for pain, recovery, and inflammation.

Where BrainTap Fits

If you found us searching for biofeedback, BrainTap is probably close to what you are picturing. It uses guided audio and light to gently guide your brain toward calmer states — a relative of the relaxation side of neurofeedback, without the sensors and screens. It is simple, hands-off, and great for stress and sleep.

Which One Do You Need?

  • Want to train self-regulation, focus, or calm? Look at biofeedback or BrainTap.
  • Dealing with pain, inflammation, or slow recovery? PEMF is your tool.
  • Not sure? Most people benefit from combining a body therapy (PEMF, compression) with a nervous-system tool (BrainTap).
